Cedar City is home to Southern Utah University, founded in 1897, a comprehensive, regional state university of more than 6,000 students which serves as an important center for advanced learning and public service. Southern Utah University hosts numerous plays, lectures, operas and musicals, as well as NCAA Division I athletic events.
