Countless times I’ve been asked by my out-of-town clients, “Why move to Cedar City?” The location, population size, accredited Southern Utah University, and weather are just a few of the many reasons Cedar City is a great place to call home.
Located just 2.5 hours North on I-15 from Las Vegas and 3.5 hours South on I-15 from Salt Lake City, both International airports are an easy drive away. Or, hop on a quick Delta Connection and be to Salt Lake in 45 minutes. Positioned at the doorstep of National Parks, and other beautiful areas, hiking, camping, fishing, winter sports, hunting, and water sports are all accessible within minutes, creating many opportunities for adventure or relaxation year-round, without the expense and headache of travelling long-distances. Drive up to the newly renovated Ski Resort at Brian Head, spend the day skiing, tubing, or snowboarding and still sleep in your own bed that night.
At 5200 ft. elevation, Cedar City residents enjoy all 4 seasons. With average annual snow fall around 4 feet, homeowners in Cedar City often have the joy of snow during the Holiday Season. Not interested in a White Christmas? Hop in your car and head South on I-15 to sunny St. George and enjoy temperatures that on average are 15 degrees hotter than Cedar City. In July, our hottest month, in Cedar City, our average high temperature is only 90 degrees, and if that’s too warm for your liking, spend the day at Cedar Breaks National Monument and return home in the evening and enjoy the cool summer breeze.
Cedar City is nicknamed “Festival City USA” because of the multitude of Festivals and events our town hosts each year. The Tony award winning Shakespearean Festival draws thousands of tourists and hundreds of actors to Cedar City each year. Whether you are in to Theatre, Music, Classic Cars, Athletics, Rodeos, or all of the above, Cedar City has opportunities for involvement and entertainment waiting for you. Living in Cedar City, it is easy to head towards Main Street to run a quick errand or to grab a bite to eat and get side-tracked by the tents up at the City Park for one event or another. In August 2014, Cedar City hosted Stage 1 of the “Tour of Utah” Cycling Race which was elevated to a 2.HC, the highest classification on the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) American Tour.
Southern Utah University is located at the heart of Cedar City and the positive influence it has on the community cannot be overstated. Offering Associates, Bachelors, and Masters Degrees, SUU brings diversity and opportunities for growth to our community. 7,000 students attend each year and with an impressive 20:1 Teacher to Student ratio, they are able to build relationships with their Professors and experience a more hands-on education. Part of the Big Sky Conference, SUU Athletics hosts many tournaments, games, and events throughout the year in Cedar City.
At just under 30,000 Residents, Cedar City is big enough to have the conveniences of a “city” but small enough that you still have the community feeling of a small town. Find your favorite restaurants and it won’t be long before you are on a first name basis with your server, and they may even remember your favorite drink! Forget about traffic, long commutes, pollution, and expensive housing costs, Cedar City offers you the freedom to spend your time, money, and energy creating a great life with those you love. Alternatively, if you are looking for wide open space, drive 10-15 minutes out from the center of town and you’ll find that too.
Finally, if you aren’t convinced yet, please, give us a call and schedule a visit, so that you can fall in love with Cedar City for yourself.
