Kanarraville, Utah is in Iron County, north of St. George and south of Cedar City, at the base of the Hurricane Cliffs. The area was initially settled in 1861 and named for the Paiute Chief Canarrah. The settlers spelled it Kanerra. Those settlers were families out of Fort Harmony which had been abandoned when heavy rains washed out the adobe walls. The community was mostly supported by coal mining, farming, and ranching. The name of the community was changed to Kanarravile and incorporated in 1934. Today Kanarraville seeks to remain an agricultural community and utilizes the commercial and industrial options Cedar City offers for additional needs. There are approximately four hundred people that call Kanarraville home.
Kannarraville’s biggest draw is its amazing views and scenery. Known as part of the gateway to many of the National and State Parks and Monuments in Utah, there are many scenic trails of which to take advantage.
