Stay up to date on the St. George market
St. George, Utah is the county seat of Washington County. It lies adjacent to the Pine Valley Mountains in the Mojave Desert and is known for the beautiful natural environment and its proximity to many state and national parks. St. George was founded in 1861 as a Mormon cotton mission. Early settlers were able to cultivate the cotton as a commodity but were not able to produce it for a competitive market. Because of that, cotton production was eventually abandoned. However, of the three hundred missionary families that had been sent, there was a balanced number of farmers, businessmen, masons, carpenters, blacksmiths, and educators. With the development of railroads, tourism grew, carrying visitors to Zion National Park, which is nearby. Because the city was established around hills, waterways, mesas, and desert habitat, the natural boundaries of communities within the city make it feel more rural than urban. Today some 80,200 people call St. George home.
St George is known as an arts and cultural destination. The St. George Arts Festival offers musical, visual and theater, featuring not only local artists but also national and international artists. The festival offers a wide variety of contemporary Southwestern indigenous art. Beyond the festival, St. George sponsors concerts in the park and art in the park events. Additionally, Art Around the Corner features outdoor statues and sculptures in the downtown area. The St. George Art Museum features a variety of traveling exhibits. For those who love history, there are tours offered by Historic St. George Live! During the summer months, tours of historic downtown St. George are given. The Historic Ancestor Square features the downtown Farmers market as well as art galleries, live entertainment, and fine dining. This diverse community is also known for marathons, triathlons, and rock concerts held outdoors with national and international bands participating.
St. George real estate options include a variety of ranch styles, historic homes, contemporary homes, and condos. Listing prices for available St. George properties fall in a relatively broad range. The beautiful landscapes which serve as natural barriers for the neighborhoods of the community create a unique rural atmosphere. With the emphasis on history, arts, culture, and sports, St. George is an excellent destination to consider for those looking for a new home.
