Following further exploration, in 1847 Mormons developed a trade route through the Beaver River Valley that went from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. One man and his family arrived to build the fort for the Mormon Church, and it became a center for mail carriers, cowboys, and the telegraph service. The fort is owned by the Mormons and is home to a collection of historic artifacts displaying life from times past as well as some pioneer innovations.
